This is neat that you can purchase the lodging chapter of the Washington DC - area guide from world-famous "Lonely Planet". It's very affordable...
Hotel Monaco Alexandria VA - An Excellent Centrally Located Hotel
Alexandria VA Lodging - From Luxury to Moderate
Alexandria VA Lodging - ranges from luxury hotels to moderate hotels, and there are even a few old-fashioned motels.
The Alexandria VA Lodging I am going to recommend to you, is based upon several criteria:
Good value for the money, location, parking, amenities and service.
You may be surprised to know that there are no 5-star hotels in Alexandria VA...so you need not worry about that.
If you insist upon 5 star lodging, I'm sorry to say, but you're going to have to go across the Potomac River to Washington DC.
You see, we Alexandrians are a little bit frugal...we like nice things, that's for sure, but not too fancy.
But you'll be delighted with our 3 and 4 star accomodations, I promise you.
Without any hesitation --- I strongly recommend the Kimpton Hotel Chain to you. They have 3 hotels in Old Town Alexandria, and they are among our best....
The Kimpton Hotel Group offer 3 "boutique" hotels on King Street - which is our main street running from the Potomac River all the way to the King Street Metro:
Check with the Hotel booking companies for a good rate: Travelocity, Expedia, Hotels.com., etc...
Hotel Monaco offers the closest-to-the-rive location. A recently renovated hotel with excellent dining...famous for its "doggie happy hour" in Tuesdays & Thursdays from 5 - 8 PM
The Morrison House - Midway between the Potomac River and the King Street Metro Station is this small gem of a hotel. 1/2 block off King Street.
Lorien Hotel and Spa - Brand New and Sophisticated...Only 2 blocks to King Street Metro Station (Which means a long walk to the waterfront - but don't worry, there's a FREE trolley)
Alexandria VA Lodging - Less Expensive and a Good Value For Families
The Hampton Inn Old Town Alexandria is conveniently located on King Street just several blocks from the King Street Metro Stations. Great for families! - Sorry no pets.
Insider's tip: Please be careful when booking a hotel for your stay in Alexandria VA. - Many hotels "claim" to be in Alexandria, when, in fact, they are no where near the "tourist" area. Only if you are on an extreme budget - would I recommend you book a hotel on Route 1, near Route 395 or Route 495.
