City of Alexandria VA - more information and fun links

Alexandria VA Government - Small, Easy and Efficient

Alexandria VA government is financially secure and very stable. Thanks to the people who live in Alexandria - The tax base is rich due to residents having good jobs..and real estate values are stable.

Besides the ample employment opportunties of the Federal Government, many Alexandrians work for one of the "3-A's" --- Attorneys, Accountants or Associations. Alexandria is home to many national associations, due to its proximity to Washington DC.

Alexandria VA's government is housed in a lovely colonial building on Market Square on King and Fairfax Street. (This is where the Farmer's Market is held every Saturday morning). And it is also a gathering place - with fountains and benches.

Two blocks East on the left is the Alexandria Virginia Court House. I certainly hope you won't be needing the Court House during your visit here ... unless for something happy, like getting married here.

Parking in Alexandria is a problem - Obey restricitions - or you will get a ticket

Alexandria VA government - they are VERY good at giving-out parking tickets, so be careful. And the tickets are EXPENSIVE!!!

Meter parking is for 2 hours only. (Brings lots of quarters). You cannot "feed" the meters. That means, if you will be in Old Town for more than 2 hours, you'll need to park in a garage.

Parking in the neighborhoods is also restricted to 2 hours for non-residents.

My favorite garage is at City Hall - King and Fairfax Streets. Use it for weekends and evenings. It's the cheapest, and centrally located.

For long term parking - make sure your hotel offers parking. Then, walk or take a cab for sightseeing...

The "Alexandria VA Mailing Address" is huge - but don't be confused - most of it is NOT located in The City of Alexandria - most of it is in Fairfax County, and may be FAR away from Old Town Alexandria VA - - -

A good way to tell location - ask "How far is it from Alexandria City Hall - King and Fairfax Streets?"

If you'll be staying with a friend in a neighborhood with restricted parking - they should go to City Hall and get a Visitor's Parking Pass for your car...
